BELGRADE, 11 October 2019 – The Regional Director of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Ms. Alanna Armitage, will arrive in Belgrade on 13 October for a 4-day visit to Serbia. During her first official visit to Serbia, Ms. Armitage will participate in the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), taking place in Belgrade next week, and will meet with senior Government officials, United Nations agencies representatives and other partners.

 

The visit comes less than a month ahead of a the Nairobi Summit on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the landmark International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD),  and one week before a Regional Conference on Population Dynamics, Human Capital and Sustainable Development to be held in Sarajevo. Delegations from Serbia consisting of ministers and other high-ranking officials, experts and CSO partners will participate in both events, presenting Serbia’s commitment to developing sound population policies and implementing the ICPD Programme of Action.

 

Ms. Armitage has been Director of UNFPA’s Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia since 2016.
