Human papillomavirus testing and the PAP test are performed for the early detection of premalignant and malignant changes in the cervix. The changes can occur due to exposure to various risk factors, but infection with the Human Papillomavirus is considered the key cause. Free HPV and PAP testing now available for women in Belgrade and Niš

The Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanović Batut", with the support of the Ministry of Health and the United Nations Population Fund, is organizing free testing with simultaneous application of HPV and PAP tests for 10,000 women, aged 30 to 65, from the territory of Belgrade and Niš.

In Niš, testing is carried out at the Women's Health Care Service, at the Niš Health Center, every working day and on weekends from 7 am to 8 pm.

In Belgrade, testing is possible at two locations: at the Institute for Health Protection of Workers of the “Serbian Railways” (Savska Street 23), at the Women’s Health Protection Service, on weekdays from 8 am to 6 pm and on weekends from 8 am to 3 pm, as well as at the Institute of Public Health of Serbia “Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut” (Dr Subotica Street 5), in the Institute’s outpatient clinic from 2 pm to 6 pm, and on weekends from 8 am to 3 pm.

Interested women can get tested with their personal documents, without prior appointment.

The test is intended for women aged 30 to 65, with the exception of pregnant women, women who have never had sexual intercourse, women who are being treated for cervical cancer, and women who have had their uterus or cervix surgically removed. Testing should be postponed for women who are in their menstrual cycle, as well as for women who have had sexual intercourse or used vaginal douches in the last 24 hours.

Human papillomavirus testing and the PAP test are performed for the early detection of premalignant and malignant changes in the cervix. The changes can occur due to exposure to various risk factors, but infection with the Human Papillomavirus is considered the key cause.
